About the Author Roddy Doyle is one of Ireland's most well-known and talented authors. He is the author of eleven critically acclaimed novels, as well as numerous children's books, plays, screenplays and short stories. Several of his books have been adapted for the screen and made into films, including The Commitments in 1991. In 1991 he was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for The Van, before eventually being awarded it in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. He is the recipient of numerous other prestigious literary awards including the Irish PEN Award in 2009, the French Literary Award in 2011 and the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Award Novel of the Year for The Guts in 2013. He is also a Royal Society of Literature Fellow. In 2009, he established Fighting Words, a creative writing centre in Dublin City.
