New Island to publish TWO SUMMERS by Award-Winning Writer Glenn Patterson this September.

Renowned author Glenn Patterson is set to captivate readers once again with his new book TWO SUMMERS featuring two compelling novellas titled Summer on the Road and Last Summer of the Shangri-Las. The acclaimed writer takes readers on nostalgic journeys through the summers of 1980 Belfast and 1977 in New York City, exploring themes of self-discovery, resilience, and the transformative power of connection.

A pair of novellas are set over two pivotal summers in the lives of two young men from Belfast, recall the constraints of the place where they were born and the times in which they are living. Capturing the innocence of adolescent boys, their passion, confusion and yearning,

Aoife K. Walsh, commissioning editor of New Island said, “What I loved the most about TWO SUMMERS is how, like the films of P. T. Anderson and Steve McQueen (Licorice Pizza and Small Axe, in particular), Glenn weaves characters and places, events and atmosphere with the utmost humanity, humour and clarity all set to a music fan’s bangin’ soundtrack. Seemingly random, colour creating moments are suddenly significant and hypnotising for their power to transport us into the hearts of two Belfast boys on the cusp of adulthood.”

Patterson is the is Director of the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University and author of eleven novels and five works of non-fiction. Alongside Colin Carberry, he also wrote Good Vibrations (BBC Films), which the pair later adapted for stage. His broadcast work includes The Northern Bank Job, for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds, which won best true crime podcast in the first Irish Podcast Awards.

TWO SUMMERS is published by New Island in conjunction with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, it’s release date is September 18th. Preorder is available directly from newisland.ie
