Slant – Katherine O'Donnell Interview with LGBT Life

In celebration of Pride and her debut novel, Slant, Katherine O'Donnell spoke to LGBT Life about her writing process, the importance of LGBTQ+ history, and Irish values.

Watch her full interview below:

“Katherine O'Donnell writes beautifully and speaks in such lyrical, almost poetic tones, she could probably charm birds from trees. Such attributes, when combined with Katherine's extensive scholastic knowledge and diverse life experiences make her an interviewers dream guest and compelling listening.

Kathrine is presently employed at University College Dublin (UCD) where she is a member of School of Philosophy, where she lectures in the History of Ideas and feminist & gender theory. She describes herself thus: "In many ways my academic career is conventional, yet working for so many years in feminist theory I have also found the opportunity to work with people who suffer social disadvantage, specifically cultural stigma. I was a co-founding member of the Irish Lesbian and Gay Archive: the IQA, now safely deposited as a living archive with the National Library of Ireland and I currently work with the group, Justice for Magdalenes Research, we were instrumental in having the State issue apologise to the women of the Magdalene Institutions and in successful lobbying for the Magdalene Redress Scheme. I collect oral histories of witnesses from the Magdalene Laundries". A renaissance woman par excellence.

Slant is Katherine's first novel, it is published by New Island Books. “
