New Island author Sara Burke, whose recent book Irish Apartheid: Healthcare Inequality in Ireland caused quite a stir, was awarded an Irish Medical Media Award in the print media category at an event in Dublin on 30 September.

The award ceremony, sponsored by pharmaceutical company Glaxo Smith Kline, was well attended by medical professionals and journalists alike, and Ms Burke was praised by John Bowman as 'a prolific health writer, ubiquitous in broadcast, books and print'.
