Arguing at the Crossroads: Essays on a Changing Ireland

Old certainties about what it means to be Irish are vanishing while dozens of voices clamour to explain what is going on. Now, Arguing at the Crossroads, a new collection of essays, defines a moment in a changing country, presenting a kaleidesope of challenging views.

In this book, leading contemporary Irish writers and thinkers, such as poet Eavan Boland, journalist Fintan O'Toole, novelists John Banville and Julia O'Faolain, and politician John Hime present their interpretations of the Ireland that they live in. First released to mark France's L'Imaginaire Irlandaise celebration of culture in 1996, this book is now published in English for the first time, with an introduction by L'Imaginaire organiser, Doireann Ní Bhriain.

Edited by Paul Brennan and Catherine de Saint Phalle.
