The Thaw

The Thaw is set in County Wicklow during the big snow of 1947, when the entire countryside endured a bitter, prolonged winter. The play focuses on the rural community in a townland near Tinahely. Two figures emerge from the icy landscape and enter the lives of the Lonergans - a local farming family. Snowed in together for weeks on end, the tension rises and suspicions are aroused, until secrets concerning strangers are finally revealed. The Thaw  is a compelling play about nature and humanity, loyalty and betrayal, inspired by the people of South Wicklow, North Wexford, and East Carlow. The play premiered at Tinahely Courthouse Centre.
